"In the past fifteen years there has been a great intensification of the use of soil in Uruguay, mainly by agribusiness. When we talk about agribusiness, we’re talking about monocultures of eucalyptus and the cultivation of GMOs, mainly soy and corn. [...] These monocultures create a great deal of ecological stress, comparable to the felling of the deforestation of the Amazon, and from the fact we can witness some of the inconsistencies in this model. We are felling the Amazon to fill it with cows and soy while we are growing forests in ecosystems like Uruguay; we are planting trees in a prairie ecosystem."
