“Grassroot Youth Democracy”
The project is a global action aimed at fostering transnational capacity building. It will gather youngsters from two European countries toughly affected by the economical crises (Greece and Italy) and from other four different countries (Mauritius, India, Uruguay, Ecuador) belonging to different continents. All the 16 participants will be involved in a scheme of learning mobilities through non formal education opportunities (seminar, training, job-shadowing). The red thread of the project will be on water as a human right and commons good, where all the participants will implement a common campaign and several field researches in each country. The project outcomes will then be used to advocate, create awareness and be freely shared on an Online Education Resource (OER) Platform.
Aims and Objectives of the project:
These are the objectives of the project:
- Fostering capacity building of youngsters through non formal educational activities, such as trainings, seminars, job shadowing, organization of local events. These learning opportunities will contribute to enhance youth skills in social communication, media and campaigning as well as to increase their competences and knowledge.
- Fostering NGOs empowerment, and their organizational development thanks to the youth, who coming back from the mobilities will remain involved in the NGOs, becoming skilled resources.
- Fostering Youth learning on long term, by producing an Open Educational Resource – OER – taking the form on an Online Platform of Multimedia Educational material, in different EU languages (English, Greek, Spanish, Italian), related to the project output and methods. The Platform will be an opportunity to increase capacities and knowledge of youngsters since it allows processes of self learning. Since it is going to be open to everybody it will also foster intensive outcomes dissemination and it will ground project sustainability
- Increasing active youth participation to public issues and democratic life through a fruitful learning mobility exchange between European and Partners Countries' youngsters, that also is meant to be a tool of empowerment for youth.
The project will allow to change the starting situation because of its unique opportunities of exchange and competence growth for youngsters.
Being focused on growing youth capacities and on campaigning “Grassroot Youth Democracy” will be marked by a relevant multiplying effect. The main target, the youth involved, will become multipliers who will be moved to disseminate content and methods in their countries and with their fellows sharing the project outputs (collected inside the OER platform). They will reproduce activities and actions, motivated by the exchanging of experiences, and this will help to consolidate results but also as an opportunity of follow-up activities.
Furthermore, youth will be invited to join the sending organizations after the mobility experience, sharing the knowledge and skills acquired during the project.
The situation will also be changed after the project in terms of networks. The partner organizations will have their network strengthened and further transnational cooperation and networks will be created thanks to project activities. This enlarged network will sustain the production of future projects and follow up activities.
The project will also favour future bilateral/multilateral cooperation between European and Partner Countries organizations, between NGOs involved in youth volunteering and those in campaigning, communication advocacy and education and between NGOs and local institutions. We are sure that this multiple interconnection will favour the growth of several follow up projects and activities.
The project activities will be divided in several phases, from April 2015 to February 2016:
Phase 1/ Seminar – Montevideo / Uruguay (15/22 April 2015)
All the 16 participants of the project together with 1 member from each partner organization will meet in Montevideo (Uruguay). They will learn how to coordinate an international campaign, learn what a plan of action is, how to implement an effective campaign, what are the communication tools needed and how to monitor it and evaluate results. They will deepen the campaign thematic issues on water and sanitation as human right. They will get prepared for the job shadowing deciding how to carry on the field studies foreseen within it, (and thus how to collect and select materials) and the campaign methods.
